The extensive renovation of St John’s Church in the heart of the city has taken five years. Work on revitalising the church, which serves as an open space for encounters, art and culture, is now almost complete. This forward-looking modernisation will be celebrated with a festive concert, in which cantor Wolfgang Abendroth pays tribute to the musical tradition of St John’s Church, where 20th-century French music has always been particularly cherished. The programme features impressive, sonically rich works: Francis Poulenc’s ‘Gloria’, Olivier Messiaen’s ‘Trois Petites Liturgies de la présence’ and Camille Saint-Saëns’ ‘Laudate Dominum’ for double mixed choir, organ and orchestra.
