Useful information
about the performance
“One Thousand and One Nights” has enjoyed over a thousand years of success. It is part of global pop culture, constantly being reinterpreted. The courageous Scheherazade is regarded as the inventor of the cliffhanger: she always interrupts her story at the most suspenseful moment, thereby halting the violence of the tyrannical ruler. The popular podcast, based on Claudia Ott’s new translation, is coming to the stage for the first time. Director Judith Lorentz closely intertwines the narration (Roxana Samadi) and the music (Philipp Johann Thimm with Roshanak Rafani), featuring tales of the mermaid Dschullanar, three self-assured sisters in Baghdad, and a fisherman’s struggle with a gigantic djinn. Scheherazade tells her story for her life – and we listen.
