Woodstock, the “mother of all festivals”. Even after 56 years, the spirit of this incredible event in rock culture is still palpable. Four of the closest collaborators of organiser Michael Lang are still alive and tell as contemporary witnesses about the creation, planning, successes and failures of the mammoth project using documentary photographs by the famous rock photographer Henry Diltz. They talk about the resistance of the authorities and how they were overrun by 500,000 visitors, only 50,000 of whom had a ticket. Rona Elliot, Ticia Bermuth, Edward Herbert Beresford “Chip” Monk and Henry Diltz take us back to 1969 in an entertaining way and impressively convey to those born later the spirit from which the most famous of all rock festivals was born.
