The history of the Düsseldorf-based duo DIE FRAGE stretches back 20 years to the electronic-folk project Fauna, which was characterised by a melancholic sound and lyrics that explored interpersonal tensions and emotional abysses. After a lengthy hiatus, the pair returned to the stage in 2023, presenting stripped-back versions of works ranging from Bach to Bauhaus. As DIE FRAGE, the duo has now reoriented itself and is breaking new ground with synthesisers and analogue drumbeats. Minimalist song structures combine with rougher sounds and Dada-esque, absurd lyrics as a response to an increasingly complex world. It sounds partly pop or rock, but also like song-oriented club music.
