Useful information
about the performance
With her new album “Dialddar”, Moroccan singer Oum once again demonstrates her musical class and enormous range. Oum thus continues her quest for a universal music, rooted in tradition yet visionary. On stage, she is accompanied by a multinational, predominantly female ensemble, in which voices and percussion weave together in an organic dialogue. At her side, the oud of Yacir Rami, Oum’s long-standing musical companion, adds its refined, minimalist touch – like a golden thread running through the raw yet sophisticated fabric of the distinctive Dialddar sound. A celebration of voices and rhythms.
Having grown up in cosmopolitan Marrakesh, Oum gained her first musical experience in a gospel choir led by an African American of Jamaican descent. Since the release of her debut album, *Soul Of Morocco*, she has built up an impressive career.
Oum draws her inspiration from the various oral and rhythmic traditions of North Africa and the Sahel. Her composition AWAN was inspired by the poetry of the nomads of the Maghreb; A.B. is a tribute to her father and to the ritual music of Marrakesh; and MNINE draws inspiration from Aïta, the popular traditional Moroccan singing tradition.
As a committed artist, Oum stands for freedom, women’s rights and the rights of minorities, as well as for an ecological and humanistic vision of the world. As a UNAIDS Ambassador, she transforms her art into a space of resistance and sharing, where spirituality and poetry rise as life-giving forces.

Jazzthetik
"Rhythmic energy, a powerful voice, melodic strength and the diverse musical roots that repeatedly come to the fore clearly stem from Eastern traditions, yet build a wide-reaching bridge towards the West."
