Odyssey

Nubya Garcia is part of the close-knit London jazz scene, which has been attracting international media attention since the late 2010s. She effortlessly blends jazz with elements of world music, classical music, and danceable, club-ready beats to create a sound that is entirely her own. The saxophonist and composer, who has Caribbean roots, received a classical education in violin and viola before devoting herself to the saxophone at the age of ten and studying jazz. Initially, she was inspired by classical figures of modern and spiritual jazz such as John Coltrane, whose formal rigour she combines with London’s freedom in a stunning way. Three years ago, Nubya Garcia was already received with rapturous acclaim at the festival; now she returns with her album ‘Odyssey’, on which she has further refined her sound. She has since become one of the most pioneering international jazz musicians of our time.
