With a line-up never heard before, the ensemble Nancelot, led by Swiss jazz flutist Nancy Meier, sets sail for new horizons and opens up fresh perspectives for jazz: four flutes and a drum kit create sonic labyrinths without the grounding provided by a bass or keyboard instrument. ‘Nancelot’ is also the title of the band’s debut album, which develops a language for four identical instruments that harmonises with the drum kit. “Nancelot” is a suite in which impressionistic soundscapes are imaginatively and ironically disrupted. The result is highly complex yet playful jazz that flirts with both Debussy and Ravel as well as driving grooves.
