Maryna Krut was just a child when she first encountered the bandura. The 64-string Ukrainian lute-zither, with its ethereal, harp-like sound, has stayed with her ever since. Today, Krut is a virtuoso of the bandura, which she uses to accompany herself, and she is recognised as a powerful and authentic new voice that is reviving a great Ukrainian folk music tradition. At the same time, Krut is firmly rooted in the present and looks to the future musically. The style of her highly emotional and gripping songs combines Ukrainian folk traditions with pop and jazz influences. She has been committed to her home country since 2014 and performs for soldiers on the front line in the war zone.
