Copenhagen-based pianist Johanna Borchert and Berlin-based double bassist Miles Perkin form a duo that, under the banner ‘The Match’, engages in a dynamic dialogue on equal terms. For the word ‘match’ has many meanings, oscillating between connection, competition and conflict. This ambiguity forms the basis for this new ensemble, which combines extended playing techniques with songwriting and pop music, shifting between abstract and catchy sounds. Elements of jazz, contemporary music and free improvisation also flow in, with voices and sounds blending organically to create a unique musical world that is more than the sum of its parts.
