Useful information
about the performance

We are treated to a return performance by the brilliant up-and-coming ensemble Shechter II, co-produced by the festival, which has been generating euphoric excitement every two years since 2018. Shechter’s choreographies captivate audiences with their raw physicality and exceptional musicality. The former dancer with the renowned Batsheva Dance Company, who moved to London in 2004 and soon rose to become a world-class choreographer, now presents his new show ‘In The Brain’, which premiered in March, in which he explores the parallels between club culture and contemporary dance, moving between rave and ritual. Following the premiere in Bern, the Swiss press described it as “a rollercoaster of emotions” and said they felt “swept off their feet”.
This new original work for Shechter II is inspired by “Cave”, a piece Hofesh Shechter created for the Martha Graham Company in New York in 2022. What must it be like to dance all night long? Time flies by, and we share a common dream of connection and belonging. The young dancers of Shechter II bring all their energy and skill to this festive and finely choreographed piece.

“A captivating one-hour piece that is both powerful and moving. ... Shechter possesses the artistic ability to transform chaos into art.”

Sharp shifts in lighting, pounding beats, twitching limbs: eight individuals suddenly become a crowd, and all the energy valves burst open. Yet, like a good DJ, Hofesh Shechter keeps interspersing gentle chill-out moments without letting the tension drop.
