Useful information
about the performance
The a cappella ensemble provocale under the direction of Sebastian Voges stands for original and carefully conceived programmes. The concert in this festival edition is about existential and final matters, namely “love and death”. Compositions from the 16th and 17th centuries shed light on love, its joys, but also its suffering in all its shades. Early English choral music is interwoven with songs by Eduard Mörike in idiosyncratically austere settings by Hugo Distler, while the second part features the world premiere of Sebastian Voges’ setting of three poems by Michelangelo, before coming full circle with works by Charles V. Stanford and Samuel Barber. The chamber choir will be supported by flautist Ulrike Brochtrop.
