The ensemble led by saxophonist Roland Danyi, put together especially for the Düsseldorf Festival, is part of the next generation of jazz musicians.
Danyi gained a wide range of musical experience from an early age, having initially studied classical oboe before switching to the tenor saxophone and jazz. He has been a permanent member of the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra since 2024 and began his Bachelor’s degree in jazz saxophone at the Folkwang University of the Arts. Double bassist Tristan Sorg has been studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT) since 2024 and is already in high demand on the jazz scene. The winner of the 2024 ‘Jugend jazzt’ WDR Big Band Soloist Prize has, like Roland Danyi, already shared the stage with many experienced jazz greats. Together with pianist Jonah Micke, who loves to experiment with improvisation, and Düsseldorf-based drummer Fidel Winter, Roland Danyi is planning ‘a jazz standards session’.
