With its programme ‘WEIBLICH!’, the Clara Schumann Music School Big Band presents a small yet exciting selection from the wealth of musical treasures created by female composers and arrangers
active in the world of big band jazz. Featuring Carla Köllner, Kathrine Windfeld, Karolina Strassmayer, Nikki Iles, Maria Schneider and Claudia Döffinger, the current programme showcases works from countries including Germany, the USA, Denmark, England, Korea and Japan. Founded by Hans Jürgen Böhm in 1979, the Big Band has long been a key part of Düsseldorf’s cultural diversity. Since September 2000, the CSM Big Band has been under the baton of Romano Schubert and has become an integral part of the city’s musical life and Düsseldorf’s jazz scene. The high standard of the CSM Big Band is evidenced by numerous awards: the WDR Jazz Prize 2007, first places at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Orchestra Competition in 2007, 2015 and 2019, and first prize at the German Orchestra Competition in 2021.
