A regular guest at the festival is the Big Band of the Clara Schumann Music School Düsseldorf under the direction of Romano Schubert. With its programme “Own Stuff”, the multi-award-winning CSM Big Band presents compositions by its band members that have been professionally arranged, a programme that is as diverse as the band’s musicians. For the first time, the CSM Big Band will enter into dialogue with the Bi-Bop Big Band of the Bielefeld Music and Art School. The two big band leaders know each other from their student days and have repeatedly crossed paths musically, so the idea of organising an exchange and a meeting between the two award-winning bands was an obvious one. The Bi-Bop Big Band is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and in 2009 it received the prestigious WDR Jazz Prize with its band founder and leader Stephan Jochen Schulze. The repertoire ranges from arrangements by the Count Basie Band to modern works by renowned jazz composers.
