Useful information
about the performance
The Berlin harpsichordist Elina Albach and her ensemble CONTINUUM have already wowed audiences at the festival on several occasions with innovative forms of presentation and captivating new interpretations of key works of early music. Now the musicians have taken on Bach’s St Mark Passion, one of the most enigmatic works by the Cantor of St Thomas. Missing parts of the Passion will be supplemented with contemporary interludes by Caroline Shaw and Missy Mazzoli and with historical arrangements. The author Jürg Halter has written texts to accompany them, which he recites himself. Halter imagines Jesus as a doubter and wonders what it would be like if Jesus had to suffer his Passion again today.
