Useful information
about the performance
Was it merely a productive misunderstanding, or was it actually a malicious taunt, when contemporaries described Giuseppe Verdi’s *Requiem* as, in truth, his ‘best opera’? This judgement has long since been refuted; Verdi’s setting of the Latin Requiem text, premiered in Milan in 1874, with its stirring visions of the fear of death and the end of the world, of farewell, mourning and his sense of eternity, is one of the most emotionally charged choral works in the history of music. The choir and orchestra of the Andreaskirche, conducted by Martin Fratz, together with a select quartet of soloists, perform this magnificent work.
