Useful information
about the performance
The historical figure of Salome is documented in the Bible and inspired artistic male fantasies, especially in the second half of the 19th century. Richard Strauss set Oscar Wilde’s play “Salome” to music in 1905 to create what is perhaps his best opera. It is a spectacular continuation of a long PODIUM tradition. Mathias Halvorsen (piano) and Mathieu van Bellen (violin) have already presented versions of the opera classics “Tosca” and “La Bohème” condensed into instrumental duets and boiled down the veristic works without their drama evaporating. Richard Strauss’ “Salome” is a bold, surprisingly dissonant work for which Strauss envisaged a huge cast. It will be interesting to see what effect this “chunk” will have in the miniature version.
