Useful information
about the performance

The choice of name says it all: the Rothko String Quartet is reminiscent of the great abstract painter Mark Rothko, signalling its openness to neighbouring arts. The new programme is inspired by literature and the toxic love between two literary greats, characterised by jealousy and conflict. Two years ago, the spectacular correspondence between Ingeborg Bachmann and Max Frisch was published and gave the Rothko String Quartet the impetus for a new concert project in which love takes centre stage. The quartet finds musical answers to seven poignant letters by Bachmann – not least with Leoš Janáček’s second string quartet “Intimate Letters”.
