Useful information
about the performance

The Rheinische Posaunenquartett spans a wide range from dramatic opera literature to impressionist sound painting and contemporary original music. True to the motto “Dialect meets music”, musical narrative forms are made audible alongside recited texts in Düsseldorf dialect – this time without sung language, but with the expressive “dialect” of the trombone. The programme opens with Rossini’s famous overture to “William Tell”, a masterpiece full of contrasts and narrative power. Saskia Apon’s trombone quartet brings contemporary colours into play, before a real brass heavyweight follows with Steven Verhelst’s “Monumental Etude”. The four musicians in the trombone quartet are students at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf and prove that the trombone can not only play loudly – but also lightly, precisely, nuanced and surprisingly versatile.

Felix Koch, tenor trombone
Jeremias Schlesier, tenor trombone
Konrad Waßmann, tenor trombone
Liam O’Mahony, bass trombone
