The nine-piece formation Nubiyan Twist hails from London’s bubbling jazz scene. The highly acclaimed band creates a grounded, powerful big band sound. Afrobeat and highlife serve as a springboard for groove-based genres, including jazz, dub, soul, funk and reggae. For the new album “Find Your Flame”, the Londoners were able to recruit Afrobeat heir to the throne Seun Kuti – son of Fela Kuti – and legendary producer and funk guitarist Nile Rodgers, among others, who seamlessly switches between disco, jazz and Afrobeat sounds. “Energy, rhythm, youthfulness, madness, precision and a wide range of influences,” enthuses Rolling Stone.
