Useful information
about the performance
Since its foundation in 2016, the Berlin-based ethno-jazz band LELÉKA, led by singer Viktoria Leléka, has dedicated itself to revitalising old Ukrainian folk songs. The rhythmic and formal basis is jazz, while folklore elements are heard harmonically and LELÉKA follows folk music models in terms of melody, articulation and phrasing. However, the arrangements do not look back, but breathe new, modern life into folk music with contemporary settings and improvisation. The band’s position between the worlds is also evidenced by the prizes they have won at both the “creole” world music competition in Berlin and the young talent jazz prize in Burghausen.
