Useful information
about the performance
Franz Liszt had pronounced literary interests, and he was particularly fond of the Italian poet prince Dante Alighieri and his main work “La divina commedia” (The Divine Comedy). The medieval poem inspired him to write two compositions, which will be performed in St. John’s Church: the piano sonata “Après une Lecture du Dante”, interpreted by Simona Santini, and the “Dante Symphony”, of which the last movement – the “Magnificat” – will be heard in the concert. The second part of the concert features the cantata “Davide Penitente”, a rarely heard work by Mozart. The Kantorei of the Erlöserkirche Langenfeld will sing under the direction of Esther Kim, and the Rheinklang Orchestra will play.
