Useful information
about the performance

The motto of the first concert in the Sunday Organ series is “Church and Piano”, and this time the dramaturgy of the keys will focus entirely on the note “B”. The programme includes two works by Johann Sebastian Bach from the first part of the collection of the Well-Tempered Clavier: Praeludium and Fugue in B flat major BWV 866 and the weighty pair of works in B flat minor BWV 867, followed by Franz Schubert’s great Sonata in B flat major D 960. Frank Volke is influenced by the Düsseldorf church music tradition. He received his first organ lessons from the cantors Paul Hilberath and Werner Lechte. He is very familiar with the Beckerath organ at St Andrew’s Church, having worked as a church musician for no less than 23 years at the former Hofkirche St Andreas. Frank Volke initiated the organ music series “The Sunday Organ”, which has been taking place in St Andrew’s since the first festival edition, as well as the “Church and Piano” series at the same location.
